Why Food Storage?

When I first started my food storage journey, it came with great opposition. A lot of questions were raised as to my faith in God and why I felt the need to take on such a task, but God reminded me about the days of Joseph. See, God had told Joseph that the famine was coming in a few years, so Joseph made the people save food for 7 years so when the famine came they would not starve to death.

When the famine came, Joseph's brothers and his father Jacob, who still lived in Canaan were very hungry. Jacob sent his sons to Egypt to buy food, and they went to Joseph to ask for food. They didn't recognize him, but Joseph knew they were his brothers. He wasn't mad at them any more for what they had done to him. He felt happy to see them and he knew that they would feel horrible about selling him as a slave.
Joseph finally told his brothers, "I am Joseph, your brother! Is my father still alive?" But the brothers felt so shocked and so ashamed of what they'd done, that they couldn't even speak. Joseph said, "Come closer to me. Don't be upset or angry with yourselves for what you did to me. God had a plan all along. Since I've been in Egypt, I've been able to save lots and lots of food. I think God must have sent me here so that I could save you and our people from the famine. Now you can bring our father and all your families and live here in Egypt with me. The famine is going to last for five more years, but we'll have enough food because I made sure that the people of Egypt stored food for the last seven years."

Joseph forgave his brothers. Because he had listened to God and stored enough food, he was able to help his brothers, their wives and their children, his father, and all the people of Egypt during the years of famine.
Doesn't planning ahead conflict with trusting God to lead me?

God's Response
A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. -Proverbs 22:3
Don't begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates and then checking to see if there is enough money to pay the bills? -Luke 14:28
Look here, you people who say, "Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit." How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog-it's here a little while, then it's gone. What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that." Otherwise you will be boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. -James 4:13-16
  • Planning helps you put your faith into action. It demonstrates your desire to use your time wisely and makes you a good steward of the time and resources God has given you. So make your plans, but hold them loosely so that you can adjust if God gives you new marching orders.
God's Promise
You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail. -Proverbs 19:21
